How It Works

An itinerary built around you, not around who pays the planner.

We're the Staches, the obsessive researchers behind Wandering Mustache. We've spent years building trips the hard way: forty-seven open tabs, a map with a few hundred pins, and a running list of our own expensive mistakes.

ai-tinerary is that process, taught to a machine. You tell it who's traveling and why. It does the research, checks it against official sources and our own maps, and hands you a day-by-day plan with every link going straight to the hotel, restaurant or ticket office.

It is not a travel agent. It won't steer you toward whatever pays best, and it won't pretend a place is wonderful because it's popular.

Four Steps

You answer the questions. The machine does the homework.

1 Tell it who's going

Dates, budget, and a card for each traveler: why they travel, how they spend, how they plan, what they must see, and what they'd rather skip entirely. Everyone can fill in their own card from their own phone.

Not sure what type you are? Take the Wandering Mustache traveler quiz (opens in a new tab) first. It's optional, and a little rude.

2 It does the homework

It researches sights, prices, seasons and opening days, then checks your must-dos against each other and against the calendar. The Louvre closes on Tuesdays; it knows.

3 You get a plan, with receipts

A day-by-day itinerary with a stamp on every place, so you know how much to trust it:

  • Stached: reviewed in person by us. Good or bad, the verdict is ours.
  • Scouted: a trusted travel companion went for us.
  • Vetted: researched by us, not yet visited.
  • AI-ed: found by the machine, checked against official sources.

4 You book it, direct

Every link goes to the vendor's own site. No booking platforms skimming the middle, no resold "private tour" at five times the ticket price. Change anything, rebuild, and it's yours.

The flaw: it's AI. Now and then it will suggest a restaurant that closed in March. That's what the stamps are for. Trust the Stached places most and double-check the AI-ed ones.

Want to see one? Two honeymoons, one Paris: same city, same four days, two couples who would hate each other's trip.

Who Pays Us

The short answer: never the place we're recommending.

 Who paysWhat it never buys
Wandering MustacheThe travel bragsNobody. We pay for our own trips. If we ever get a discount, it's in the Full Disclosure box at the top of that brag.A review, a link, or a kinder adjective.
ai-tineraryThis toolFree during beta and for invited early users. At public launch, your first itinerary is free and later ones carry a small flat fee. The fee pays for the AI behind it, and we'll publish what each itinerary actually costs us to run.A place on your itinerary. Hotels, restaurants and tour companies pay ai-tinerary nothing.
Booking with the StachesOptional, laterIf you'd rather we book some of it for you, the supplier pays us a commission. You'll see the commission on the quote before you say yes. Book with us and your ai-tinerary fee comes back to you, or goes to the scholarship fund. Your call.

The recommendation. We pick the place first, then check whether it pays. Never the other way around.

Anything left over after the costs funds scholarships for young volunteers and the local projects we support when we travel. Every link we publish goes straight to the vendor. No affiliate links. Ever.
